Established in 1957, Government Medical College, Kozhikode (GMCK) is one of the oldest and most prestigious medical institutions in Kerala. Founded by the Government of Kerala, the college has been at the forefront of medical education, research, and healthcare delivery for over six decades. GMC Kozhikode operates a 1200-bed tertiary care teaching hospital, providing advanced medical services across various specialties including cardiology, neurology, oncology, and trauma care. MBBS Program at GMC Kozhikode
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery)

A 5.5-year program including one year of compulsory rotating internship. The curriculum covers basic sciences, clinical subjects, and hands-on training in our teaching hospital. Annual intake: 200 seats.

Admission is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) conducted by the National Testing Agency. The program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required for medical practice, emphasizing patient-centered care and ethical values.

Postgraduate Medical Programs
Postgraduate Degrees (MD/MS)

We offer 25+ specialties in MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery) with a duration of 3 years. Programs include General Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Orthopedics, and more.

Admission is through NEET-PG. The courses involve rigorous clinical training, research projects, and dissertation work. Our postgraduate students gain extensive experience in diagnosis, treatment, and patient management under the guidance of experienced faculty.

We also offer diploma courses, fellowship programs, and continuing medical education (CME) workshops for healthcare professionals. Our Nursing College provides B.Sc. and M.Sc. Nursing programs, and we have paramedical courses in Radiology, Laboratory Technology, and Physiotherapy. Our academic calendar includes regular assessments, practical exams, and viva voce sessions to ensure comprehensive evaluation. Teaching Hospital

A 1200-bed multi-specialty hospital with advanced ICUs, operation theaters, and diagnostic services including MRI, CT Scan, and Cath Lab. The hospital handles complex cases and provides 24/7 emergency care.

Specialized departments: Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Oncology, Trauma Center, Burns Unit, and Pediatric ICU. The hospital is NABH accredited and follows international quality standards.

Research Labs

Well-equipped laboratories for biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, and pharmacology research. We have a central research facility with funding from ICMR, DBT, and other agencies.

Current research projects include infectious diseases, genomics, cancer therapy, and public health studies. Students and faculty publish regularly in indexed journals and present at international conferences.

Central Library

Digital library with 50,000+ books, 200+ print journals, and access to online databases like PubMed, Scopus, and UpToDate. Reading halls, computer terminals, and group study areas available.

The library offers inter-library loan services, online citation tools, and training sessions on research methodology. Open 24/7 during exam periods.

Student Hostels

Separate hostels for men and women with furnished rooms, Wi-Fi, recreational facilities, and dining halls. Sports complex, gymnasium, and cultural activities promote holistic development.

Hostels are secure with CCTV surveillance and resident wardens. The campus includes a cafeteria, medical store, and banking facilities for convenience.

Additional Infrastructure

Our campus spans 50 acres and includes an auditorium with 1000 seating capacity, seminar halls, simulation centers for clinical skills training, and a mortuary with modern facilities. The college has a dedicated animal house for experimental research, approved by the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA). The blood bank is licensed by the Drug Controller of India and provides round-the-clock services. We also have a well-maintained botanical garden and green spaces for environmental sustainability.

The IT infrastructure includes high-speed internet, campus-wide Wi-Fi, and a telemedicine center connecting to rural clinics. Our vehicle fleet includes ambulances equipped with life-support systems for patient transport. The college encourages energy conservation with solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems.

Recent Achievements

Our students won first prize in the national medical quiz competition held at AIIMS Delhi. Dr. Anjali Mohan, a postgraduate student, received the Young Researcher Award for her work on diabetic neuropathy. The college secured ₹2 crores in research funding from the Indian Council of Medical Research for a project on antimicrobial resistance. Our hospital achieved a 95% patient satisfaction rate in the latest survey, reflecting our commitment to quality care.

We have signed MoUs with universities in the UK, USA, and Australia for student exchange and joint research programs. The college's innovation cell filed 5 patents in the last year for medical devices developed by students.
